DESCRIPTION OF KNOWLEDGE YOUNG WOMEN AGAINST TO  BREAST CANCER IN  TAMALANREA INDAH VILLAGE

ABSTRACT

Breast cancer is cancer of breast tissue and is the most common cancer suffered by women and become the second largest cause of death after cervical cancer. This cancer usually affects young women/adult. According to WHO 8-9% of women will experience breast cancer and an estimated 1.2 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 700,000 died of it in 2000. Based on data from the Provincial Health Office South Sulawesi said relatively high prevalence of breast cancer where most patients are in Makassar, Gowa, Wajo, Bone, and Luwu.
This study aims to see the overview of knowledge of young women against breast cancer in the Tamalanrea Makassar distric. This type of research is a descriptive survey. The population of this study are all young women in Sub Tamalanrea Indah Makassar District numbering 1954 souls. The samples obtained by "Accidental Sampling", 206 respondents.
The results showed that most respondents had knowledge about breast cancer adequate (78.6%), especially regarding risky sex (65.5%) and groups of women who are at risk (62.6%) of breast cancer. According to the internal environment, knowledge of the respondents are good enough, for example can be seen on attitudes toward breast cancer patients, where respondents admitted concern to them (27.2%). According to the external environment, knowledge of the respondents also are good enough, for example, can be viewed on the basis of habit discussions with peers about breast cancer (80.9%). Meanwhile, according to information, the respondents who claimed more knowledgeable enough to get information about breast cancer from newspapers/magazines (78.4%) and television (78.8%).
Based on the results of research that has been done then it is suggested that knowledge of young women against breast cancer needs to be improved, especially regarding signs/symptoms of breast cancer. Also required of self-awareness and the active role of family and surrounding environment in the provision of such information.
